We compared the big-name 400cc motocrossers in issue #38 50 years ago. We determined the best and the worst of the 1972 Maico 400, CZ 400 and Husqvarna 450... We also tested the Yamaha 500cc MX... The Trans-AMA Motocross Series got underway in Copetown, Ontario, Canada, where Roger DeCoster won again after his earlier successes at the Trophee and Motocross des Nations... Gary Scott finished off the season-ending flat track championship with double half-mile wins at Ascot. 50 Years Ago OCTOBER 3, 1972 P116 LOOKING BACK Kawasaki revealed its complete line of 1983 motorcycles, and we pictured the GPz1100 on the cover... We also showed you some of the hottest bikes at the Cologne Show. We were impressed with the Kawasaki 750 Turbo... We had coverage of the Motocross of Nations from Germany, where Team USA—Danny Chandler, David Bailey, Jim Gibson and Johnny O'Mara— took the win. Chandler won both motos. Chandler also won both motos the week before at the Trophee des Nations... Saddleback hosted the opening round of the Miller High Life Trans-Cal Series. Broc Glover, Steve Martin and Ron Lechien were the big winners. 40 Years Ago OCTOBER 6, 1982 40 40 40 Roger DeCoster was in top form 50 years ago. His latest victory was the opening round of the Trans-AMA MX Series in Canada.
