The real excitement in the pre-
miere ranks was that just a single
point separated the veteran,
Tomac, from the kid, Sexton,
going into the finale, setting the
stage for a dramatic showdown
of the ages. The scenario was
simple—both riders needed to
win, more so for Sexton than
Tomac. For Sexton to over-
take Tomac and collect his first
450MX title, the 22-year-old
would have to win both motos.
But winning both motos wasn't
unrealistic by any means for him.
After all, prior to Pala, Sexton
had won five of the last seven
motos, which included some im-
pressive come-from-behind suc-
cesses. And he beat Tomac the
