Cycle News traveled to Cessnock in Australia to cover the ISDE and we
pictured the top-finishing American, Rodney Smith, on the cover 30 years
ago. Team USA finished 12th. Italy came away with the win... Scott Parker and
Chris Carr went 1-2 at the Springfield Mile. Carr left Springfield with a 13-point
lead over Parker in the GNC Championship... Team Spain won the Trials des
Nations, which was held in Watkins Glen, New York. Team USA finished ninth
with riders Ryan Young, Geoff Aaron,
Raymond Peters and Cory Pincock.

Championship that weekend in N.Y.
We got our first ride on the new 2003 Yamaha YZ450F motocrosser.
It was pictured in action on the cover from Lake Whitney... Colin
Edwards won both legs of the World Superbike Championship at
Oschersleben, Germany... Ricky Carmichael completed the perfect
season after going 1-1 at the AMA Motocross National Championship
at Steel City... Nicky Hayden topped the Springfield Rodeo Arena
flat track... Stefan Everts won his sixth MX World Championship title,
matching Joel Robert.
