fter inventing the off-
road contest in 1913 that
would eventually be titled
the FIM International Six Days
Enduro (ISDE), Great Britain
enjoyed a long run of success,
winning the FIM World Trophy
(WT) an astounding 16 times.
But its last triumph took
place in 1953 in what was then
Czechoslovakia. As Nathan
Watson, one of the four riders
on this year's British WT team
quipped, "My parents weren't
even born then!"
He continued, "It's crazy
because we've always had good
talent from the [United King-
dom], but this race is not just
about raw speed. It's about a
whole combination of tactics and
keeping it on two wheels and
being consistent."
That said, everything fell into
place at the 96th running of the
world's most prestigious enduro
and Great Britain stepped to
the top of the podium, once
again, at the Aerodrome Le Puy-
Loudes, its first win in 69 years,
with the quartet of Watson, Jed
Etchells, Steve Holcombe and
Jamie McCanney the victors by
ISDE history makers and
heartbreakers. Great
Britain wins two titles, Italy
repeats in Juniors while
U.S. hopes dashed
