allowed Tomac plenty of time
to study Sexton's lines, spend
the least amount of energy on
this sweltering hot day, assess
Sexton's riding, and plan an
inevitable attack for later, which
did come. And he executed it
flawlessly with some help of
lappers that appeared to hinder
Sexton somewhat.
The attack came on lap nine
of the 13-lap race, which was
shortened (both motos) to 25
last time they met in the second
moto at The Ironman National
last weekend, plus Sexton won
the opening two motos at Pala at
the season opener. So, Sexton
came into the final with momen-
tum on his side, which he car-
ried into the first moto when he
swiped the holeshot away from
Tomac, taking the early lead.
Unfortunately for Sexton, in
retrospect, this might not have
been the best of strategies. It
minutes plus two laps because
the race was taking place right
in the middle of California's
worst heatwave of the year, with
temperatures well into the triple
digits.
As expected, though, Sexton
fought back, and it was now
Sexton who could observe his
rival but without the luxury of
time. Unfortunately for Sexton,
a slight bobble was just enough
to let Tomac get away and win

five motos, Hunter Lawrence three
motos, Justin Cooper two, and RJ
Hampshire, Michael Mosiman and
Levi Kitchen one apiece. Jett led
the most laps at 135. Next best
was his brother, Hunter, at 69 laps.
Shimoda led 65 laps.

MCADOO CRASH
Cameron Mcadoo suffered a big
get-off in the second 250 race.
He crashed off the step-up jump
and collected himself with a track
worker before exiting the track on a
backboard. He later reported: "The
crash ended my race early, but I'm
glad I was able to get up and feel
okay."
Briefly...
(Above) Jett Lawrence (1) officially
clinched the 250MX title in the first
moto. (Left) For a while, it looked
as though Jason Anderson (21) and
Christian Craig (28) might factor
into the championship battle in the
second moto but they stayed clear.
Anderson finished third on the day
and third in the championship.
