Mistakes in turns three and four were commonplace, even for riders running all alone at middling speed. But Daniels somehow managed to avoid any so big as to allow Mees and Bauman through, even with Mees breathing down his neck, showing him a wheel, and mak- ing mock runs to the stripe in re- hearsal of a final-lap showdown. Rather than fold, Daniels put the last lap together perfectly, creating enough separation to render Mees' prior practice moot. The champ did, how- ever, hold down second with Bauman less than a second back in third. Daniels said, "This was obvi- adapt to the new rules and the Estenson Racing squad has continued to develop the Ya- maha's chassis. My goal was to try to s ck with the lead group, but that didn't work, so I just tried to be really consistent and brought home a fourth. That's not what we wanted, but we'll keep figh ng." The win was Daniels' second in the premier class.
