Ferrandis, Barcia Speak Out
D
ylan Ferrandis, the 2021
450MX AMA National Moto-
cross Championship, and Justin
Barcia finally spoke out about
their controversial on-track inci-
dent that took place between the
two racers at the Budds Creek
National MX.
During the second 450MX
moto, Ferrandis had a run-in with
Barcia who Ferrandis accused
of gaining time off the track and
then T-boning him. The AMA
later agreed with Ferrandis and
erased Barcia's eighth-place
finish and the points that went
along with it for punishment.
Ferrandis retired after the
crash. The incident wasn't caught
on television camera, but photos
appear to show Barcia on the
inside of a track barrier before
making contact with Ferrandis.
Ferrandis later spoke out on
social media. "Budds Creek
moto two, I got T-boned by
Barcia, pretty normal from him,"
Ferrandis wrote. "But this time he
went off track in the previous cor-
ner where I passed him, gained
time off track and went straight
into me and made me crash.
At this point, I don't really care
about that, but I just wonder how
can his team, sponsor, family,
friends, trainer, fan… can sup-
port that? Yeah, he got disquali-
fied but he will do it again next
weekend and every other race
and nothing will change… No
sportsmanship and bad image
for our sport. Very sore today. I
hope I can make it to [the] next
race at 100%."
Barcia, however, has since
revealed his onboard GoPro
footage of the whole incident,
showing him, indeed, going off
the track, but not necessarily on
purpose, and then encountering
Ferrandis, again, seemingly not
intentionally or, at least, "T-bon-
ing" him.
Barcia said, "Three sides to
every story, his, mine and the
truth. Here is the Instagram
GoPro footage showing I didn't
T-bone anyone and me going off
the track and that the hit was a
racing incident."
