30 Years Ago SEPTEMBER 2, 1992 Chris Carr was featured on the cover of Cycle News 30 years ago for winning the Indy Mile after a fierce battle with Scott Parker... Tim Ferry became the most successful amateur motocrosser ever after the 17-year- old won his sixth and seventh career titles at the 11th running of the AMA Amateur National MX Championship at Loretta Lynn Ranch. Other winners included Robbie Reynard and minicycle champs Ricky Carmichael, Nick Wey and Kevin Windham... Americans Sam Ermolenko and Rick Miller qualified for the Speedway World Finals. Chevy Trucks Kawasaki's James Stewart clinched the 125cc Motocross National Championship at Broome-Tioga 20 years ago. At 16 years and nine months of age, Stewart became the youngest-ever AMA National MX Champion. Ricky Carmichael kept his perfect record going with another 1-1 in the 250cc class... At the Czech Grand Prix at Brno, Max Biaggi gave Yamaha its first MotoGP victory in the four-stroke era... Rich King won the Missouri State Fairgrounds Half-Mile...
