him to crash off the track at one
point, but the older Lawrence
brother never gave up and still
turned in a top-five ride. Hunter
is knocking on the door for a win
and certainly has what it takes
to get the job done. He's solidly
second in overall points.
"It was a rough situation," Law-
rence said. "I kept thinking it was
something with the engine but
the motor never stopped, so it
must have been something with
the brake. I'm bummed because
I feel like I had an overall win in
me today."

It was heartbreak for Hunter
Lawrence as he was again oh-
so-close to taking his first overall
of the summer. A strong second
in moto one put him in conten-
tion for the overall, but bike
issues in moto two forced him
back in the order. A suspected
rock appeared to jam his rear
brake as he looked down at the

won the second moto at Wash-
ougal and looked to pick up right
where he left off. The New York
native led early in moto one but
high-sided on the slick, marbly
surface. This gave Shimoda the
lead while Cooper was forced
to fight back to an eventual fifth.
He righted those wrongs in moto
two with a dominant victory,
yarding the field by seven sec-
onds. Cooper's 5-1 score was
good enough for second overall
as he continues to catch fire in
the championship.
