the number-three. A mediocre
start in moto one put Sexton out-
side the top five before he began
chipping away at Tomac and the
rest of the field. Once he found
his flow it was the end for the
other 39 riders.
After passing Tomac for the
lead, Sexton immediately put
distance between himself and the three-time
champ and later extended the margin to over
10 seconds—a feat practically unheard of.
Moto two looked much the same, with
Sexton grabbing a better start the second
time around. He made light work of Tomac
and went on to win again. This statement ride
earned Sexton the points lead, by only one,
over Tomac with just three rounds
left.
"It was an awesome day," Sexton
said. "I struggled this morning in
qualifying but we made some bike
changes that worked out really well.
This track really suited my style and
I just couldn't be happier with how
the day went. I'm having an awe-
some summer and I'm so happy on my bike. I
just want this to keep going."
It's no secret that Eli Tomac isn't the big-
gest fan of the Unadilla race course. This
year conditions weren't as deep as they've
been before, but that created a whole differ-
ent beast with uncharacteristic square edges
on a hard-packed marbly surface. Consider
