VOLUME 59 ISSUE 33 AUGUST 16, 2022 P93
race occurred when reigning
Mission SuperTwins Champion
Jared Mees beat his factory
Indian Motorcycle teammate and
primary title rival Briar Bauman
into the first turn. That was all he
needed to successfully defend
the position to the checkered
flag, no matter what the (likely)
faster Bauman threw his way.
Just behind, Daniels snaked
his way up through the field as
he soused out a reliable overtak-
ing maneuver on a track where
few others could do much more
than hope to force a mistake
from the rider ahead of them.
Whether or not it could have
worked on Bauman and/or
Mees was never put to the test
in practice; Daniels' back-up
machine encountered problems
of its own, forcing him to call off
his charge and be satisfied with
fourth in the end.
The final spot in the top five
went to Mission Roof Systems'
(Above) Jared Mees (1) was
second, keeping his points lead
intact. (Below) Briar Bauman got on
the podium in third place but was
hoping for better.
MYOWNRACE
combina on bit him when he crashed
out of third while approaching the jump,
an incident that also sent Roof Systems
of Dallas/Bullet Strong Racing's Ferran
Cardús somersaul ng overhead. Kopp
salvaged a 10th despite star ng from the
back of the field for the race's third and
final restart. "We're all good. Man, I was
figh ng for the lead at my home-state
race, and I threw it away. That is how it is
some mes, but I hope Ferran is all good. I
apologize to him and his team for causing
that incident. We'll be back at the next
one and we kept our points lead, and
that's all that ma ers."
32 DALLAS DANIELS
4TH SUPERTWINS
Estenson Racing's rookie ace Dallas Dan-
iels is s ll alive in the Mission SuperTwins
tle fight. Just think where he'd be if he
had be er luck and greater start-line
success. He said, "We just had some
misfortune. We were running good all
day, and for whatever reason, I went off
the start and the motorcycle just died. I'm
not quite sure why. It was just a malfunc-
on—it's nobody's fault. It was a fluke
deal, but obviously it was a bummer and
I felt bad because a lot of guys piled up
behind me. I was able to jump on my
back-up bike and I got up to fourth pre y
quickly. But for some reason, that thing
started running bad; it was misfiring a lot.
I felt like I was making up ground on Briar
(Bauman) and Jared (Mees), but I just
stalled out. Regardless, it's a bummer. I
felt like I had the speed to win, but that's
just how racing goes some mes."
