We tested two DKW 125 versions of off-roaders, the Hornet and Motocross.
The Hornet came with traditional telescopic Betor forks, the Motocross
leading link spring forks with Boge shocks... We also had a test of the
Monark 125cc Enduro... Dick Mann was the big winner at the Peoria TT
National. He took the win over Sonny Burres and Mert Lawwill... On the
local motocross scene, brothers Bob and Bill Grossi dominated Spillway
MX in Santa Maria... We covered the BMW International Alpine Rally.

History was made 40 years ago when Suzuki's Brad Lackey wrapped
up the 500cc World Motocross Championship in Luxembourg,
becoming the first American to win a World Championship in motocross
in the premier class. We had full coverage of Lackey's success
that day, and he was featured on the cover of Cycle News... It was
a great couple of weeks for Suzuki. After Lackey won the 500cc
MX Championship, Darrell Shultz and Mark Barnett wrapped up
the 250cc and 125cc AMA National Motocross Championships at
Carlsbad... Randy Goss won the Peoria TT.
