For Sale: Kenny Roberts Jr.'s
Marlboro Yamaha
D
o you have $400,000 burn-
ing a hole in your pocket?
If you answered "yes," you're in
luck, now you can have perhaps
the ultimate trackday weapon—
Kenny Roberts Jr.'s 1996 Marl-
boro Team Roberts Yamaha
YZR500, which has just come
up for sale via American Rick
Degan and his Japan-based
sales business, RMD Motors.
The machine, currently located
in the United Kingdom, is the
same used by Jr. in his first full
season on a 500 and his last be-
fore Kenny Roberts Sr. defected
from Yamaha to build his own
machine called the Modenas at
the end of the year.
Rick Degan has been the
go-to man for decades when
it comes to getting some rare
gems out of the various dark
corners of Japan, however, this
particular Grand Prix motorcycle
came from Kenny Roberts' own
personal collection he sold to
Rick in Japan several years ago.
"When I sold the bike to the cur-
rent owner in the UK three years
ago, he went through the bike
top-to-bottom," Degan says. "The
suspension was reconditioned,
the engine has been rebuilt, and it
recently went through some more
maintenance before Kenny Rob-
erts rode the machine up the hill
at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of
Speed. It's in perfect running con-
dition, although there are no spares
that come with the purchase."
Go on, treat yourself.
