Young Takes Command of Canadian Superbike Title A double win in trying circum- stances hoisted Ben Young (BMW) firmly into the lead of the 2022 Canadian Superbike title at Atlantic Motorsport Park at the weekend. Young had current champion and long-time rival Alex Dumas (Suzuki) to contend with in both races, the latter crashing out of the lead at the halfway point of race one after an intense battle with Young's BMW. Former champion Young then cruised to the race-one win to open up a 26-point lead in the title heading into race two, and he made doubly sure of the weekend by tak- ing race two in inclement weather conditions that saw light rain fall only on select parts of the track. "Neither of us really had any idea what to do in the conditions, so I wanted to let Alex lead for a while because I knew I had a bit more to lose," Young said. "I didn't feel any pressure to push for the win, but the pace on this Van Dolder's Home Team BMW was just so much better that I was able to pull away at the end." "We really want to put that num- ber one back on the bike, espe- cially after we didn't get to run it in 2020, so hopefully we can bring that home and showcase it here next year," he said. Young's lead is now 31 points over Dumas. The 2022 Canadian Super- bike Championship will take a two-week break before returning for its annual finale in CTMP at Mosport on August 12-14. CN IN THE WIND P60 Ben Young (86) took command of the 2022 CSBK title after taking both wins at Atlantic Motorsport Park.
