LOOKING BACK
We pictured our Uni-Trak-suspension 1982 Kawasaki KX250 motocrosser
in action on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago... We had coverage
of the DuQuoin Mile. Ricky Graham ended up out-dueling Jay
Springsteen and Ted Boody for the win... Rick Johnson won the Four-
Stroke World Championships at Saddleback Park aboard a BP Racing/
Pro-Tec 600cc Yamaha... Franco Uncini extended his points lead over
Kenny Roberts and Barry Sheene in the 500cc Road Racing World
Championship after winning in Yugoslavia... We interviewed drag racer
Terry Vance.

The legendary Bill Russell was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 50
years ago. The retired NBA basketball star who played for the Boston
Celtics was enjoying his new hobby at Saddleback Park with mentor Gary
Bailey. Russell, 6'10" tall, raced his Yamaha 250 MX that day and was
making new fans along the way... The Trans-AMA Motocross Series stopped
in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, for round five, where Swede Haken Andersson
came away with the overall victory... We tested the 1972 Bultaco Pursang
motocrosser. We called it a "racer's racer."... Cal Rayborn won the National
Road Race at Laguna Seca.
