VOLUME 59 ISSUE 27 JULY 6, 2022 P67 450MX Maybe it just took Tomac one overall win to get the ball roll- ing. After the first four rounds, it didn't look like this would be a Tomac summer, but he kept his High Point momentum going and jumped right into setting the fastest morning time in the early qualifying sessions at RedBud. Moto one went Tomac's way, as he took the holeshot and led every lap of the moto before backing it up with another win in the second race. The competition should be nervous if this is how it will be the rest of the season. After a perfect day at RedBud, Tomac is now just seven points in the back of the season's fast starter, Chase Sexton. "It was an outstanding day for us, going 1-1," said Tomac. "It was almost a completely perfect day. I had some great starts, and in moto one, it was all about the start. I was a little bit buried in that second moto and had a battle with Kenny [Roczen] at the beginning of that race. I was able to make the move to the front somewhere around the halfway point, and that was it. The bike worked awesome in all the conditions today. We just have to keep chipping away at the points." Sexton was in a bit of damage control mode on Saturday. The points leader looked fast at what he considers his home race but starting outside the lead pack didn't do him any favors. While MYOWNRACE 24 RJ HAMPSHIRE 4TH (4-6) 250MX RJ Hampshire put together a solid ride that went prac cally unno ced on TV. A strong effort in moto two put him just off the overall podium. "The riding was really good today; I felt like I was almost back to normal," Hampshire said. "My starts were not good, and in the first moto, I was beat. The second moto, I ended up going down with a group of guys on the first lap and was buried back in 30th or so. I felt much be er on the bike this weekend and had pre y good strength, so I think we'll con nue to get be er now. We kind of got over that hump with injuries, and we're back having fun and s ll have a fight in us." 59 LEVI KITCHEN 5TH (9-4) 250MX Levi Kitchen was the highest finishing Yamaha rider in the 250 class, taking fi h overall with a 9-4 score. "It was a good day overall. In the first moto, I got buried on the start and got up to ninth. I really didn't ride great in that first moto, to be honest. Then in the second moto, it was not the greatest of starts again, but I was riding re- ally well. I got up to third from 10th, which was great. I saw Jo (Shimoda) was coming, and he ended up ge ng me towards the end. I went 9-4 for fi h overall and got back to fi h in the championship. We'll just keep building. We have another new track next week, and I'm looking forward to it." Chase Sexton looked good all day and still managed a consistent 2-2 after some hiccups along the way.
