battle early with brother Jett, but
Hunter let him go as moto-one
winner Shimoda was clearly be-
hind them. Hunter's consistency
looked solid on paper but ended
up biting him after the checkers
flew as Shimoda's 1-3 ultimately
gave him the overall ahead of
Hunter.
Hunter took over the red plate
due to Jett's mechanical and
ninth place overall. Hunter now
leads the title hunt by seven over
his younger brother, Jett.
"The first moto, I was sit-
ting behind Jett, trying to leave
"In moto two, my start wasn't
great, and then I got caught up
with some riders on the first lap,
which put me outside the top 20.
I pushed hard the whole race to
fight my way to third. I had to race
really hard in both motos, and it
paid off for a great day."
For a while there, it looked to
be Hunter Lawrence's day. The
older of the two Lawrence's has
yet to claim an overall victory, but
he put himself in good conten-
tion by leading laps and eventu-
ally finishing second in moto
one. The second race saw him

heart as a crash on lap one left
him buried deep in the pack. He
again put that qualifying time to
good use as he picked off sever-
al riders lap after lap. By the end
of the race, he was third, giving
him his first career overall.
"In the first moto, I started up
front and had a fast pace going,
as I pressured the Lawrence
brothers for the top-two posi-
tions," said Shimoda. "I was able
to make a good pass into the
lead and finished strong for the
moto win.
