VOLUME 59 ISSUE 27 JULY 6, 2022 P33 Roczen, Tomac Confirmed for FIM World Supercross T he newly formed FIM World Supercross Cham- pionship (WSX) continues to make waves as both Ken Roc- zen and Eli Tomac confirmed their spots on the gate. The two rivals were announced earlier this week that they will line up for the new series, Roczen for the entirety of the first season, while Tomac is only solidified for the open- ing round as a wild card entry. This also comes as the promoters unveiled a date and location for the kick-off round, October 8, 2022, at Principal- ity Stadium in Cardiff, Wales for the British Grand Prix. Only a small handful of rid- ers have been confirmed for the series thus far, and riders like Roczen and Tomac will certainly highlight the roster. WSX does require teams to field four riders (two 250 and two 450) and Roc- zen's announcement didn't men- tion which team he'd be riding for. We believe he is in a con- tract year with Honda and the red camp has yet to announce official plans for the WSX. This will likely play a role in Roczen's contract with whoever he signs for 2023 and beyond. As for Tomac, his wild card entry does not require him to be affiliated with a team. We imag- ine he will pit with a Yamaha- supported team like Craig Dack Racing which has already been confirmed for the whole series. "The WSX is a unique oppor- tunity to compete on a truly glob- al scale, and I'm thrilled to be a part of that," said Roczen. "I haven't raced overseas in a very long time so I'm looking forward to bringing supercross to die- hard fans at these international events in 2022, all while compet- ing for an FIM-sanctioned world title. I'm thrilled for what will no doubt be an unbelievable experi- ence and a fantastic springboard for a full assault on my 2023 Supercross and Motocross championship goals." Tomac said, "I'm pumped to be heading to Cardiff to compete in the FIM World Supercross British Grand Prix. It's a huge opportunity for fans to witness World Championship Super- cross for the first time, and I'm excited to be part of such a historical moment for the sport. While I'm definitely looking for- ward to going head-to-head with Ken, I also know there's going to be a bunch of fast, talented riders from around the world all lining up for their shot at a world championship. It's going to be an epic battle for certain." CN Ken Roczen is the first superstar racer to announce he will compete in the inaugural four-race FIM World Supercross Championship starting this fall.
