Quartararo's race then went from bad to worse as he came quickly into the pits for a discus- sion with his team, then returned to the action a lap down only to crash again at turn five, this time terminally for his first DNF of the season. With Bagnaia out in front, rookie Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Ducati) steadily moved up the order to occupy a brilliant second, a position he would keep for the remainder of the race for his first MotoGP podium and the first for Valentino Rossi's new team. Bezzecchi held off a rampant Maverick Vinales, the Spaniard having his best result since joining the factory Aprilia team in third. Vinales at one stage looked as though he might close VOLUME 59 ISSUE 26 JUNE 28, 2022 P63 MYOWNRACE 43 JACK MILLER 6TH MOTOGP "The long lap today cost me a lot," Jack Miller said. "I've had a great pace all week- end, and I was able to show it in the race, but when you find yourself so far behind, it isn't easy to make up posi ons straight away and ride the way you want to. Nevertheless, I didn't give up and pushed un l the end. I tried to a ack in the last laps, but I lost the rear, allowing the rivals behind to get closer. Overall, I think I had a good race, and I'm happy about that, so I'm trying to take the posi ves from today."
