Cipala King At Big
Hill Jam
L
ogan Cipala continued his
motoclimb dominance at the
Big Hill Jam, winning the event
overall for a second year in a row.
This event at the Hill MX Ranch in
Yoncalla, Oregon hosted the third
round of the AMA IRC Motoclimb
Super Series, Presented by
Monster Energy. It also featured
the Faster Minis Pit Bike Races
and the BA Solutions Best Whip
Contest.
Josh and Justin Hill not only
helped put this event together,
which attracted a sold-out crowd
of 1000 spectators, but they also
competed in the motoclimb races.
The hill was technical, add-
ing a mix of a 20-foot vertical
step-up wall at the start, rhythm
jumps, tight turns, road gaps and
a steep hill section to make it
difficult for everyone racing. Hill
won the 450cc
main against
a stacked field of athletes from
multiple disciplines, which not
only included his brother, Justin,
but Gared Steinke, Keaton Ward,
Brett Turcotte, Nick Desiderio,
Arik Swan and more.
In the Open class, the times
were tight as the road gap became
the main factor in getting over the
fastest. Josh Hill set the fast time
in the first round on his Yamaha
YZ850F with a 17.694-second run,
but Logan Cipala bumped that
number by a 10th of a second on
his Buell 1190HCR.
Austin Teyler was the last rider
to go and took a risky inside line
on the road gap to win the class
with a 16.732-second run on his
nitro-powered Suzuki RM-Z750.
Cipala won the overall with a 2-2
score in both classes, with Josh
Hill finishing second with a 3-3.
Justin Hill rode an Open-class
bike for the first time, a Honda
CBR1000, earning an eighth
place and finishing third overall.
Steinke also competed on an
Open class bike for the first time,
finishing fifth on a Suzuki GSX-
R1000.
The next round of the MSS
Championship takes place next
weekend at Brick Mine in Wal-
halla, North Dakota.
