18-point advantage over Mischler
(and 41 over the still third-ranked
Whale) as the season enters its
middle stages.
Mission Foods/Al Lamb's
Dallas Honda's Trent Lowe
did everything in his power to
keep Mischler's rookie team-
mate, Chase Saathoff, cor-
ralled behind him to the line and
succeeded by a scant 0.019
seconds. And if anything, it was
even closer than that as Saathoff
was passing Lowe as they hit
the stripe. The order would have
been reversed had the line been
pushed back mere inches.
The result equaled Lowe's
career best and marked what is

many podiums for the prodigious
Saathoff. The milestone achieve-
ment was made that much
sweeter by the fact that Saathoff
was the faller who brought out
race's first red flag, forcing him
to scrap his way up to third from
the back of the pack.
Estenson Racing Yamaha's
Trevor Brunner finished in fourth
with Red Mile II winner Dalton
Gauthier fifth.

Vance & Hines Harley-David-
son's Jesse Janisch, who was
once regarded primarily as a TT
expert and recently without a
ride, was destined to add a short
track win to his recent half-mile
and mile triumphs.
A small miscue on the part
of Janisch, however, allowed
an equally intriguing storyline
to take its place when 17-year-
old Billy "the Kid" Ross blasted
past Janisch to earn his maiden
Progressive AFT victory.
Long considered a gifted
prospect, the Roof Systems/
JRi Shocks-backed Ross had
flashed speed before but the
results hadn't yet matched his
