Yamaha pilots likely needed to
do was get away early and let
the race play out.
Unfortunately for them, pole-
sitter Beach was immediately
dispatched by the powerhouse
factory Indian duo of Jared Mees
and Briar Bauman off the line.
Daniels, meanwhile, had it even
worse, getting shuffled back to
seventh in the early fracas.
However, Beach turned his
fortunes around before he could
even curse his poor luck; title
rivals Bauman and Mees opened
the door for him as a conse-
quence of their own tussle for
the lead less than a quarter mile
into the contest.
Beach gladly took over first
and effectively sailed off into the
sunset.

Bauman returned to the scene of his one
prior premier-class victory with hopes of
doing the same again in '22. He wasn't
far off but was ul mately disappointed to
just miss the podium. He said, "Good day,
bad racetrack. I'm not stoked with the end
result. I was fast all day and finally got a
good start in the main event. I worked my
way into second, but the line we were run-
ning kind of went away, and I didn't adjust
quick enough. I lost two posi ons and
ended up fourth, which is a big bummer.
It's a fourth-place. We have to be sa sfied
with that, even if we're not happy with it."

Everyone knew Roof Systems/JRi Shocks'
Billy "The Kid" Ross had poten al, even if
a seventh-place finish in Parts Unlimited
AFT Singles compe on was the best prior
finish of his two-season Progressive AFT
career. That changed in a big way when
Ross—whose top result in '22 had been
Beach (95) leads
the way in what
ended up being two
straight AFT wins
for Yamaha.
