use them in the Superpole race. Kind of like the SCX used to be thought of as a 10-lap tire, then people worked out how to use them for full race distance. First time the SCQs were used in a 10-lap race, in the hot track conditions, it resulted in fourth and fifth places for the top Hon- das. They lost grip near the end but maintained their positions. Astounding to almost everyone else, but Honda had obviously done their homework. It was to be a tough end to a po- tentially great day for Vierge, as he crashed at the scary-fast Turn 11 in race two at what he later tweeted was 160 mph. He suffered six frac- tures in his right hand, two of those bone will require surgery. Those who expected an instant Razgatlioglu second Sunday victory were disap- pointed, but he gave it his best again, second behind Bautista, who was unstoppable once he got clean air between himself and Razgatlioglu, winning by over seven seconds. Rinaldi finished third, complete- ly on his own merit this time for two big race podiums under the noses of the big Ducati bosses. Rea was fourth, 14 seconds back on Bautista, having changed to use the same SCX tire that Bautista used to win race one and race two. Garrett Gerloff had a disap- pointing weekend. "I'm actually happy with how the race went on Saturday," he said. "I struggled a bit in qualifying as I thought we had time for an extra lap. Because of that I wasn't able to improve. In race one, I had a decent start and it's nice that we stayed close to the front guys un- til the very end. Sunday started off really well. I felt confident and fast. For the Superpole race, I had a decent start and was in the group fighting for a top five finish. Then, I felt confident in the sec- ond race, but it ended with me crashing in the last corner. The data confirmed that we'd done everything the same as the previ- ous laps, so it's frustrating, but it happens. I'm sorry for the team, I wanted a good result for them." In the championship standings Bautista has 220 points, Rea 184, and Razgatlioglu 141. Gerloff is 12th in the standings. In WorldSSP, Ten Kate Racing Yamaha's Dominique Aegerter won both legs to extend his championship lead over Lo- renzo Baldassarri (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha), who was second both times out on the track. Aegerter leads the champion- ship with 195 points to Baldas- sarri's 141. Nicolo Bulega (Ducat) was third in both races and is also third in the championship, 37 points out of second place. Gordon Ritchie WorldSBK Race 1 1. Alvaro Bautista (Duc) 2. Jonathan Rea (Kaw) 3.
