Mission Foods/Al Lamb's Dallas Honda's Trent Lowe did everything in his power to keep Mischler's rookie team- mate, Chase Saathoff, cor- ralled behind him to the line and succeeded by a scant 0.019 seconds. And if anything, it was even closer than that as Saathoff was passing Lowe as they hit the stripe. The order would have been reversed had the line been pushed back mere inches. The result equaled Lowe's career best and marked what is almost certain to be the first of many podiums for the prodigious Saathoff. The milestone achieve- ment was made that much sweeter by the fact that Saathoff was the faller who brought out race's first red flag, forcing him to scrap his way up to third from the back of the pack. Estenson Racing Yamaha's Trevor Brunner finished in fourth with Red Mile II winner Dalton Gauthier fifth. PRODUCTION TWINS For six minutes of the six-minute- plus-two-lap Mission Production Twins main event, the race's storyline was firmly set in place. Vance & Hines Harley-David- son's Jesse Janisch, who was once regarded primarily as a TT expert and recently without a ride, was destined to add a short track win to his recent half-mile and mile triumphs. A small miscue on the part of Janisch, however, allowed an equally intriguing storyline to take its place when 17-year- old Billy "the Kid" Ross blasted past Janisch to earn his maiden Progressive AFT victory.
