after running as high as fourth
early in his return ride following
his horrifying crash at last year's
finale. The race was the first in
several select appearances the
multi-time race winner will make
for the remainder of the season.
The result significantly tight-
ens the developing Mission
SuperTwins title fight. Mees re-
mains in control with 122 points
but is less than a full race ahead
of Daniels (107), Bauman (100)
and Beach (98).
AFT SINGLES
While the prior rounds of the
Parts Unlimited AFT Singles sea-
son were titanic middleweight
slugfests featuring the official
Red Bull KTM Factory Rac-
ing and Turner Racing Honda
teams, the Laconia Short Track
was a TKO courtesy of future
heavyweight contender Kody
Kopp.
The racing gods did all they
could to keep Kopp in check,
including waving red flags on
three separate occasions as the
youngster was blasting away at
the front.
Ultimately, each subsequent
reset just provided the 17-year-
old another opportunity to
showcase his supremacy in New
Hampshire. At the end of the
day, he took the top spot in ev-
ery practice and qualifying ses-
sion, his semifinal, the Al Lamb's
Dallas Honda Challenge, and
the main event, all with seeming
ease.
That sterling performance was
in stark contrast to his primary
title rivals, Turner Honda Rac-
ing's Morgen Mishler and Kopp's
KTM teammate Max Whale.
Mischler took the final qualifying
position in his semi before claw-
ing his way up to eighth in the
main. Whale, meanwhile, was in-
jured at the Red Mile and forced
to watch the Laconia Short Track
from the fences on crutches.
Kopp now boasts three
wins in six races and a healthy
