A photo of our 1982 KTM 250/II XC off-roader test bike was on the
cover 40 years ago... Jay Springsteen notched his 31st career
National win after topping the Harrington Half-Mile at the Delaware State
Fairgrounds... Broc Glover (250cc) and Darrel Shultz (500cc) won
the National Motocross at Castle Rock, Colorado. Donnie Hansen
clinched the 250cc title when the front wheel of Rick Johnson's
Yamaha collapsed. Johnson had a 20-point lead going into the race...
We had a preview of the Carlsbad USGP.

Gary Fisher was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago after
winning both days of racing at the Loudon National Road Race... We
featured full coverage of the Bad Rock Two-Day ISDT Qualifier in Weston,
Oregon. The Penton East Team took the win with riders Doug Wilford, Billy
Uhl and Bob Grodzinski... Bill Silverthorn and Gene Fetty teamed up
on a Honda XL250 to win the Baja 500. Malcolm Smith came away with a
broken leg... We tested the 125 Rickman, a jack-of-all-trades off-road racer.
