Renaux, Vialle Stand Tall in Spain
R
ound nine of the MXGP World
Championship made its stop
just outside of Madrid for the
MXGP of Spain, May 28-29. Hot
temperatures and tricky track
conditions tested all the racers in
both classes. Two French riders,
Maxime Renaux and Tom Vialle,
came away with the overall wins
in their respective classes.
MXGP
Spanish fans cheered loud as
their countryman Jorge Prado
grabbed the holeshot in race
one. He battled up front for the
entire first lap but relinquished
the lead to MXGP rookie Renaux.
The Yamaha rider went around
the outside of the Spaniard to
take the lead and soldier on with
the eventual race win. Behind
him, Tim Gajser and Prado duked
it out for the second spot, with
Gajser making his way past the
GasGas rider. All three stayed
close at the front finishing the
moto in successive running order.
Race two, once again, saw
Prado at the front, this time
looking to make a break for it in
front of the home crowd. Renaux
stayed close at the start, but Pra-
do began putting time between
the two. Slick track conditions
eventually caught up with Prado,
who fell a few laps later, hand-
ing the lead to Renaux. Prado
remounted and finished 11th.
Up front it was all Renaux who
claimed the first double race win
of his MXGP career. His Yamaha
teammate, Glenn Coldenhoff,
finished second with Brian Bogers
rounding out the podium in race
two.
