VOLUME 59 ISSUE 22 JUNE 1, 2022 P99
the absolute maximization of his
corner-by-corner precision (ironi-
cally, in much the same way the
Yamaha-mounted riders stated
they needed to do just to keep
pace with the Indians for the past
several seasons).
Another layer of intrigue (and
glimpse into the future) was
added when a third rider joined
the mix—James Rispoli aboard
the all-new WBR KTM 890 Duke
that had dominated its maiden
Mission Production Twins race
only an hour earlier.
While Rispoli got close enough
to threaten, he never managed to
make a real attempt to overtake
Mees or Daniels. Instead, he got
a front-row seat to a historic show-
down that featured one of the
sport's all-time greats squaring
off against a gifted youngster who
many have predicted will eventu-
ally ascend to similar heights.
Mees made his last, best shot
at the win by diving into the lead
entering turn three on the final lap.
It looked to be good enough to do
the trick until Daniels blasted past
at the final moment to snatch away
the win by 0.008 seconds.

60 NICK ARMSTRONG
5-12 PRODUCTION TWINS
Compe ve Racing Frames/Lessley
Brothers' Nick Armstrong ba led his way
up and down the order on Saturday and
seemed set for another solid finish on
Sunday before a late issue knocked him
outside the top ten and out of the points
lead. Speaking of Saturday's seventh-to-
third-to-seventh-to-fi h, he said, "The day
started off kind of slow, and I didn't get a
great start in the main. I made my way up
through the pack and got all the way up to
third, which was good, but then I blew the
groove. That was kind of a bummer, but I
worked my way back to fi h."
67 DAVIS FISHER
8-2 SUPERTWINS
BMC Racing Davis Fisher's inspiring Sunday
effort was only possible due to the ghtknit
nature of the Progressive AFT paddock.
Fisher explained, "We actually found some
issues this morning as we drained the oil.
Thanks to Roof Systems for giving me a
motor to be able to run, and we ran up
front pre y much all day. From pre y much
halfway on I was with Dallas and Jared. I
got sucked in once going into turn three so
I kind of backed it off. I was able to work on
my corners and be on them coming off. At
the last lap, Dallas slowed up, and I stayed
right on Jared's tail but didn't have enough
for him to get around."
