s I parked. my truck beside
Jeff Stanton's Team Honda
box van, I glanced over at
the Hondaland test track, where
the Camel Supercross and
National 250cc MX Series
Champion was supposed to be
doing a photo shoot for a
Honda ad. I was just in time to
see Stanton perform a textbookperfect triple jump. Nothing
fancy, mind you - no feet off the
pegs or back end kicked out at
impossible angles - just a clean,
flawless triple jump.
As I loaded. my camera with
film and made my way over to
the track, Stanton made five
more passes at the jump, each
one just like the first. After
clearing the obstacle seven more
times, Stanton pulled up to a
small group of photographers
beside the jump, and stopped..
"That was great, Jeff," said
someone who appeared to be
the head honcho. "Now go over
and do that table jump 75
times."
Needless to say, Stanton proceeded to perform approximately 75 perfect table jumps in a
row. What's amazing is that I
only caught the tail-end of
Stanton's photo shoot. He had
been ripping up the track for
several hours before I showed
up, and the people conducting
the session assured me that his
perfection had never faltered.
That's typical Stanton. The
quiet rider from Sherwood,
Michigan, admits that he is neither the flashiest nor most vocal
rider in motocross, but his
strength and consistency are
second to none. That consistency was never more apparent
