Procida MORENO VALLEY, CA, DEC. 6 David Speight put his 50cc Yamaha into the winner's circle with a pair of wins on the recently-opened StarWest Pee Wee supercross track. The track features its own scaled-down starting gate and a made-for Pee Wees course that offers the tikes a challenging and fun competition. In the first moto, Speight timed the gate dead on the money to take the holeshot, leading the Stock B class Pee Wees through tbe first turn and out onto the course. Speight was never headed, as he had the whoops timed perfectly, hit the jumps with perfect style and led the race wire to wire. Behind him Ty Winnen and Kevin Folgneraiter were engaged in a heated battle for seCond place. . Folgneraiter kept the heat on lap after lap and moved into second place late in the moto. Winnen faded after being passed and finished fourth behind J.R. Williams, who made a late charge of his own. In moto two Eric Hunter rocketed out of the gate to grab the holeshot, and had the entire pack breathing down his neck. Speight, who hadn't managed to get the jump this moto, was weaving through the pack With the precision of a surgeon. By the second lap, Speight had taken the lead, with Foigneraitfr following in his wake. Once in the lead, Speight was not to be caught, and Foigneraiter was held to a second-place finish once again. In the highly competitive 25/~O Plus Novice class, Jeff Fish had to earn the overally by coming from behind Todd Baldwin. Baldwin holeshotthe first moto, but was passed by Fish on the fast back straightaway. Beau Gasiski held the number-three slot irl front of John Darby, Tony Feldhaus and John Pearce. Feldhaus was the first to make a move as he went by Darby in the whoops and closed on Pearce. After being dogged by Feldhaus, Gasinski handed over third place when he washed out in a corner, droppmg him back in the pack. The lead position was in the sole custody of Fish as Baldwin had dropped back a few bike lengths, but behind Baldwin Feldhaus was on the gas and closing quickly. On the last lap Feldhaus was only a few yards behind, but Baldwin caught sight of him coming and turned up the.wick, holding onto second at the finish. Moto two saw Baldwin take yet another holeshot aboard his 125cc Suzuki, with Gasinski, Fish and the pack close behind. Gasinski bobbled a few turns later with Fish following direcuy behirld, but managed to hold onto second place. Pearce, who was holding down fourth, fell victim to Feldhaus in the whoop section and Fish missed a gear in a tabletop pass attempt on Gasinski, allowing the Yamaha rider to hold onto second place. Up front, Baldwin began to feel the heat as Fish finally made his move on Gasinski over the double-triple jump. Fish pulled alon~side Baldwin as the pair went SIde by side mto a switchback corner. Fish had the inside line, but fell over and blocked Baldwin's path. Gasinski avoided the pair and took over the lead. With Gasinski in the lead, Fish started his bike before Baldwin and was now in second with Baldwin third. The order held for the remaining laps, with Feldhaus and Pearce rounding out the top five at the moto's end. When the results were posted, Fish earned the overall victory. Results P/W STK BEG: I.
