eam Honda's Jeff Stanton added yet
another championship crown to his
collection by winning the World
Supercross Championship title at the
Geneva Palexpo. The three-time Camel
Supercross Champion wrapped up the
title at the final round of the series by
winning Friday night's feature over
Kawasaki's Mike Craig, the only rider
going into the event who had a mathematical chance of defeating St~nton for
the crown. Craig was the runner-up,
with Frenchman Yann Guedard, and
Americans Larry Brooks and Donny
r
Schmit finishing third, fourth and fifth,
respectively. For winning the championship title, Stanton pocketed the
$20,000 purse.
Stanton topped Craig by 21 points in
the final point standings; 75-54. Third
went to American Kyle Lewis with 44
points, followed closely by Belgian
Stefan Everts with 43. Rounding out the
top five was two-time Western Regional
125cc Supercross Champion Jeremy
McGrath, who 'did not compete in
Switzerland due to an illness.
