Veteran cross country expert John Mason was fourth on his Honda, vowing to start the season off right after he completes construction of Wayne Rainey's new house in Carmel. The team of Andy Norrish and Jeff Johnson were fifth, and were the only other bike on the same lap. Rod Spencer won race number three for his second-straight Open class overall; with Jeff Johnson claiming second, but they had a spirited duel with young Dan Hart,. Jr. The teenage KX rider led a number of laps and kept the pace furious until a flat tire slowed him to third in the final three laps. Spencer . mainwned the lead over the last 12 laps for the win. Mike Spencer was fourth in, on his ATK and third Vet Expert, with Joe Vella and Tony Alves the first Enduro-thon team. John Tavis had expected to team with Spencer, but felt that he needed the ironman workout as he readies for a new sprint car ride. . Former National referee Jerry Kennedy teamed with Frank Nye for first in the Old Timer Expert division and 20th overall. In race number one, cross country ace Brian Dickey teamed with Steve Marrina to win the TiddJer class over the Concord Yamaha's Al Bacon/Lance Lucero duo, while, Mark Hadelman was first Ironman and fifth overall.
