Paladino plucks Sandhill MX
BRENTWOOD, CA, NOV. 29
Sunny weather and hot racing set the day's
action at Sandhill Ranch for the postThanksgiving GFI MXevent, where Renthall
AXO/Any Rider Kawasaki-sponsored Danny
Paladino aced Michael Brandes in the l25cc
Pro class.
Paiadino jammed into the early lead at the
start of both molOS and stayed there for both
wins and the overall. Brandes gave a hearty
challenge in the first outing and the action
got especially close about midway throu~h,
when Brandes tried to rail the outside
perimeter in a tight and tricky left-hand tum.
He shot inside, only to have Paladino close
off the passa~e, resulting in a collision.
Paladino conunued on to the win ahead of
Brandes.
After posting a fifth place in round one,
SUluki-mounted Jed Green looked much
more aggressive in moto two, as he worked
up through the pack to take third place and
third overall. Paladino scored his second moto
win for the overall victory.
After lOpping Jimmy Pierce in the first
125cc Intermediate moto, Casey Johnson had
to work into the lead in moto two and keep
alert as Eric Phipps ha'unted him from second.
Johnson managed to overcome the pressure,
building up a lead and scoring both wins for
the overall. A 3-2 finish earned Phipps second
overall, while Pierte used a 2-4 tally for third
overall.
Yamaha-mounted Shane Wheaton had his
work cut out for him in the formidable 250cc
Intermediate class, but he proved worthy of
it as he topped both molOS for the overall.
Craig Christian took a first-molO fourth on
another YZ250, but came back strong in round
two to finish second and second overall.
Joe Vella used a 3-1 score in the 250cc Novice
class to post the overaJl, with Richard
Quinones runner-up both molOS for second
overall.
