~ LOCAL EVENTS ~ Micbael Hendason (77) won both !O Plus motos at the lkanen MX season 6nale. Odom kennels Dirty Dog Scrambles By Paul Nielsen BELLINGHAM, WA, NOV. 22 Jeff Odom rode his 125cc Honda to the AA class victory and first overall in the Mt. Baker Motorcycle Club's Dirty Dog Scrambles. Due to the narrow trails and the lay of the land, promoter Lyle Duronso opted for a staggered start. The A and B classes left at 20-second intervals, while the other classes started elsewhere but used the same course. The AA class was loaded with talent, including seven ISDE medalists. Anticipation was high, and the race was up for grabs. As there was no practice, Odoms started conservatively, taking 80 minutes and 20 seconds to complete the lO-mile loop. Scott McLaughlin sheared a full minute off Odom's time, but his ride ended when he met with a tree and was forced to retire from the event. John Nielsen came out of retirement on a borrowed bike and was in the hunt, besting . Odom's time by 20 seconds on the first lap. On the second lap, Odom turned up the heat, roundin~ the course in 36 minutes. Matching his ume was Randy Vanbemmelen, while Nielsen was off the pace by a minute. In lap three Odom was smoking, recording a 34 minute loop. Vanbemmelen maintained a 36 minute pace and Nielsen, getting used to the borrowed RMl25, posted a 35 minute loop. Also in the thick of it was Rob Riley, showing quickness in the tight trails Qn his 125cc Yamaha. Winner in the 200cc A class David Lykke also posted some fast times, as did 16-year-old Kevin Bailey, who won the 250cc B class. The last lap saw Odom slow after hitting a tree, posting a 36-minute, 52-second lap, while Nielsen was one and a half minutes faster. Odom won by 37 seconds over Nielsen. Rounding out the top five were Riley, Bailey and Lykke. Jason Dahners and John Moody were riding borrowed bikes, as theirs had not returned from the Australian ISDE. Dahners left the race with mechanical problems, and Moody rode to sixth place in the AA class. Results AA: I. jen Odom (Han); 2. john Nielsen (Suz); 5. Rob Riley (Yam); 4. Tim Mount (Han); 5. Dukes dices to Bremen MX win By Gary Crider 24 BREMEN, GA, NOV. 15 Sean Dukes won all four motos in the 125 and 250cc A classes at the final round of the Boyesen/Power BarI AXO-sponsored Georgia Fall Championship MX Series, held at Bremen MX. Over 250 riders from as far away as Pennsylvania and Canada attended. Freewheeling Honda-backed Dukes was challenged early in the first 125cc A moto as he and Adam Humphrey swapped the lead back and forth. Dukes prevailed and won both motos over Humphrey. In the second 250cc A moto, Matt Shue was Duke's challenger. Shue led for several laps, but Dukes came away with a perfect score, and Shue posted a 3-2 score for runner-up honors. The Unlimited Amateur and 250cc C classes saw a day-long battle between Tim Bruce and James Adams. Bruce collected ·the Unlimited Amateur win when first-moto winner Adam crashed and dropped out of moto two. The 250cc C contest was a squeaker as Bruce passed race-leader Adams on the last lap of the second moto. Bruce's 2-1 score bested Adams' 1-2 for the win.. Bruce was back again' in the l25cc C class where he won both motos and capped his series championship. Bruce was also the seric;s winner in the Bnlimited Amateur class, and second in the 250cc C points race behind Glenn Bates. The 125cc B division saw Danny Haynes gas his Kawasaki to a perfect 1-] score over Lonnie Brown and series-winner Brad Simpson. Simpson came back to win the 250cc B class. With just two laps remaining in the final 125cc Schoolboy moto, Haynes saw his chance for the win slip away when Adam Humphrey went by for the moto win and the overall. Haynes was second over Gary Kellum. The Junior Mini contest came down to a winner-take-all second-moto battle between Mall Walker and Mick Bailey. Halfway through the moto, Bailey found a way past Walker and took over the lead. Bai'ley held Walker at bay until the final moments, when Walker regained the lead and took the win for the overall. The series victory belonged to Bailey, however, as he came out three points ahead of Aaron Lindsey. Results P/W: 1. Christopher McCorkel (Yam); 2. lach Rutledge (yam); 5. Dusty Summers (Yam); 4.
