The top vote getter will be elected to the Hall of Fame and the induction ceremony will take place in June 1993 in Detroit. The,results of the election will be announced in late December. The 199.3 inductee will join previous inductees Erwin "Cannonball" Baker (1989), Kenny Roberts (1990), Joe Leonard (1991) and Joe Petral; (1992). According to the organizers, the ride is "a nonsponsored and non-sanctioned motorcycle event. There is no fee to participate. During previous Elephant Mountain Conquests, numerous riders have crashed, causing serious damage to both the rider and their motorcycle. This event is dangerous, and fun. Roberts has approached the Sports Car Racing Association of Monterey (SCRAMP), the managers of LagunaSeca Raceway, to obtain their cooperation in making the circuit available and the assistance of their staff and volunteers in the running of the event. Roberts is setting up an office at Laguna Seca and has hired former Australian GP promoter, Bob Barnard to handle the day-to-day operations of the race,.. promotions. Laguna Seca hosted the U.S. GP from 1988-1991. This year's event will feature both 500 and 250cc GPs, and for the first time in the U.S. a 125cc GP road race. "We have mixed emotions," AMA Vice President Dick Maxwell said on Monday, November 30. "We are real glad to have a Grand Prix back, but we're not too happy with it sitting on top of Sears Point (site of an AMA National Championship Road Race scheduled for August 29).,It's just too close." Maxwell, however, did confirm that the Grand Prix would not affect the AMA National scheduled for April at Laguna Seca Raceway. "The National will go on, there's no problem there," Maxwell said.
