Two-time World Superbike Champion Doug Polen (Due) won both legs of the Columbus Games Mexico International Road Race on November 22 at the Hermanos Rodrigues circuit in Mexico City, Mexico. The Texan topped his French Canadian Fast By Ferracci teammate Pascal Picotte (Due) in both races with Italians Davide Tardozzi (~uc) and Piergiorgio Bontempi (Due) finishing third in the first and second legs, respectively. Brit Carl Fogarty rode a 500cc Harris Yamaha to victory in the Macau Grand Prix in Macau on November 21. Fogarty topped Japan's Toshihiko Honma (Yam) and England's Jamie Whitman (Yam) in the overall standings after posting a 1-3 tally in the twoleg event. The top American finisher in the overall standings was Michael Barnes (Hon) with an 11 th place finish; Chuck Graves (Suz) finished' 12th and Danny Roberts (Hon) ended up 17th overall. Fritz Kling (Yam) crashed while lying seventh on the third lap of the opening race, but escaped uninjured. Marco Lucchinelli, the 1981 500cc road race World Champion, was convicted of cocaine possession and sentenced to five years, 4 months in prison on Monday, November 16, in a Bologna, Italy, court. Lucchinelli was arrested last year along with two Peruvian drug traffickers. He was cleared of charges 'of being involved ~n an international drug s~uggling ring after he told the court that he was not a dealer and that the cocaine was intended for personal use. Spanish road racer Juan Garriga has lost his Ducados sponsorship' for the 1993 World Championship Road Race Series. Garriga, who finished seventh in the 1992 500cc World Championship on a Ducados-backed Yamaha YZR500, may end up riding an Aprilia in the '93 250cc World Championship. According to team owner Bob MacLean, a decision will likely be made on Monday, November 30, as to who will ride his Valvoline-sponsored ROC Yamaha in the 1993 500cc World Championship. MacLean is hoping to sign Scotland's Niall Mackenzie to replace Australian Peter Goddard, who rode the team's Yamaha in the 1992 500cc World Championship. MacLean's '92 bike is for sale. International S~eedway has announced that the Speedway Fall Classic, which was scheduled for December 4 at Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California, has been canceled. According to three-time 500cc World Champion Wayne Rainey, a decision will be made in the middle of December as to what brand of tires he will use on his Marlboro Yamahas in 1993. Rainey, who has won World Championships on both Michelin and Dunlop tires, has a back-to-back Michelin/Dunlop test scheduled for Phillip Island in Australia for the middle of December. He will make the decision based on the test, and his new teammate Luca Cadalora will go along with Rainey's decision. Donnie Hansen, the 1982 Supercross and National 250cc MX Champion, will be conducting a two-day MX school at the new Hanford Motocross Park which is located at the fairgrounds in Hanford, California. Multi-time National Motocross and Supercross champion Rick Johnson will design the course for the December 13 Too Much Fun Promotions La Playa Masters of Motocross Grand Prix, held in the Cantamar Dunes, just south of Rosarito Beach, Baja California, Mexico. Johnson is also scheduled to compete in the 250cc Pro class on the three-mile all-sand course. For more information call 619/ 942-0901. Dirt track racer Rex Fisher of Warren, Oregon, underwent foot surgery on November 19 to repair the damage he suffered at this past summer's Peoria TT. Surgeons per'formed a bone graft and inserted pins and screws in the foot. For the 1993 season, Fisher will have Monty Heath's assistance with his Harley-Davidson XR750 and 600cc motor work performed by Marlin Hart of Hart Racing. . He hopes to be able to compete at the March 6 Daytona Short Track National, the opening round of the AMA Grand National Championship Series. He'll be in a cast for 12 to 15 weeks and then undergo an extensive rehabilitation program. Two Brothers Racing have announced that they will field a team in the AMA/CCS Endurance Challenge Series in 1993. Rick Kirk and Tommy Lynch will compete on a Honda CBR900 in the endurance races and campaign CBR600s in the AMA/ CCS 600cc -Supersport Series. The Craig Erion-owned bikes will be tuned by Dan Kyle. Lynch rode for championship-winning Fastline/ MCM Racing in the 1992 AMAlCCS Endurance Challenge Series. Kirk will begin his second season in the Two Brothers stable. May 31, 1993, you're eligible to attend a track technique school presented by Yamaha and taught by two-time Supercross and five-time National MX Champion Rick Johnson. Twenty full-day schools will be conducted at various sites across the country in 1993. The course will focus on safety, race start techniques, power shifting, cornering and race strategy.
