~ .MOTOCROSS GFI Fall Series South: Round 3 ~ Team Peak/Pro Circuit's Mike Chamberlain (2) roosted Dana Wiggins (4), Joel Albrecht (7) and Craig Decker en route to the 125 and 250cc Pro class wins. Ryan King (44) and Ryan Picard (R7) battled around Perris Raceway's speciallydesigned Pee Wee course in the Pee Wee Stock Division One class. By Tony Alessi PERRIS, CA, ocr. 25 0 Circuit's Mike Chamberlain delivered a crippling blow to the competition by way of a four-moto sweep in the 125 and 2S0cc Pro classes at round three of the GFI Fall Series South, held at Perris Raceway. Chamberlain's crusade began in the 2S0cc Pro class, where he was forced to compete in the first moto aboard his 12Sec machine after his bigger bike broke during practice. Chamberlain and Joel Albrecht had a tug of war for the lead in the opening laps of the first moto. Chamberlain gained control oj that battle with a convincing pass near the beginning of the second lap. With that/ Chamberlain broke free of the pack and rode away with the win. Firstyear pros Craig Decker and Donald Upton rode impressively and together worked through the pack for second and third, respectively. Albrecht survived a trip over the bars in the supercross section of the track to hold onto fifth/ behind Billy Joe Mercier. The second moto saw Chamberlain pull up to the line aboard a borrowed machine. The 2S0cc motorcycle that he was aboard was borrowed from a Costa Mesa motor officer, who was on hand to Check out the track prior to the upcoming Police and Firemen/s National. Chamberlain proceeded to run away with the moto win/ riding unchallenged from the get-go. Steven Kotajarvi held the runner-up position in the early stages of p: 14 the race, but succumbed to the pressure of Upton, who set a blazing pace. Kotajarvi also fell victim to Albrecht and Decker, who motored into third and fourth, respectively. Chamberlain laid waste to the 12Scc Pro class, as he led the first moto from wire to wire. Dana Wiggins rode a lonely second throughout the race, while Decker finished third, ahead of Upton and Mike Metzger. Wiggins led briefly during the second moto, but was no match for Chamberlain/ who pounced on the second lap. Wiggins maintained second for much of the race but was nipped by Decker in the closing stages. Chamberlain scored an easy win, ahead of Decker, Wiggins, Albrecht and Kotajavi. The Perris Raceway Pee Wee track is known for its fierce Pee Wee competition, and today's races were no exception. The Division One Stock class is composed of a set of riders set apart from the rest of the Pee Wee bunch. These riders are older, faster and more aggressive than the rest. For most of them, winning is the prime objective and it/s often an all-or-nothing scenario: Jason Ciarletia'dominated the opening moto of the day, forging ahead without a single mistake. A few bike lengths behind was Nick Alvarez, who settled for second but vowed to win the next melto. Ryan Picard, Cale Wallace and Chad Gaumer Sean Hamblin (378) grabbed the holeshot in the 80cc Beginner class ahead of Randy Clark (9) and Oscar Valdez (13). Hamblin went on to notch the win. battled closely and completed the top five finishers. The start of the second moto saw Alvarez holding strong to the inside line with Picard directly to his left. First-moto winner Ciarletia tried to squeeze between the two/ but lost control and crashed to the ground. As the pack roosted away, he threw his hands up as if to say, "forget it." After some parental counseling, Ciarletia resumed the race and began . what would be an impressive comeback. Alvarez rode unchallenged throughout the race and notched the overall win/ while Wallace enjoyed a problem-free ride for second. The battle for third was a hotly-contested race between Picard, Gaumer and Ciarletia. Picard was first to falter, as he pitched it away on an offcamber. Ciarletia pushed Gaumer hard in the closing laps and was rewarded with a last-lap pass for third. Ciarletia had an easier time in the Modified class, as he swept both motos for the overall win. Wallace rode a consistent pair of races for second, followed by Picard, Alvarez and Joe Anderson. Bryan McGavran was .untouchable in the 60cc 9-11 year-old class, and easily romped away with both moto wins. Sean . Hamblin gave chase early in the first moto, but crashed while trying to keep up. Hamblin battled for the remainder of the race with a high-flying Jonathon Shimp/ who was the only 60cc pilot to jump the finish-line double jump. Shimp/s arial assault, however, was not enough and Hamblin held on for second behiryd the speedy McGavran. Hamblin returned later in the day to put together a pair of second-place finishes for the overall win in the 80cc Beginner class. Hamblin topped Tyson Taylor, Oscar Valdez and Randy Oark. Ty Kady roosted to a double-moto victory in the 500cc Intermediate class, easily besting Kelly Pichel, Garth Milan and Dan Paulson. Kady added to his day's accomplishments by finishing fifth in the 2S0cc Intermediate class behind R.c. Bennett, Chris Radzinski, Dennis Dahlin and winner Kevin Geyer. Kady's stiffest compettion, though, came in the 12Scc Intermediate class. Steve Andrich roosted away with the firstmoto win/ leaving the rest of the pack in a cloud of dust. Bennet got the nod for second over Larry Linkogle, while Dave Ferrier held off Kady for fourth. The second moto saw another Andrich runaway. E.J. Wright held fast for second, (N ahead of Bennett, Kady and Ferrier. RESULTS PIW RRST TIMER: 1. Justin Louie (Yam); 2. Charlie Jenkins (Yam); 3. Tyler Brumler (Yam); 4. JeffBeU (Yam).
