Waddington whomps Carlsbad MX
By Dave Burgess
CARLSBAD, CA, ocr. 17
Honda·mounted joe Waddington proved to
be the fastest rider at Carlsbad Racew'ay, easily
defeating the other vet pros, and all the regular
pros to collect the lion's share of the purse
at Racing Enterprises' Saturday motocross.
The Pro field was on the small side, so the
Vets were included in the class. The riders
were treated to a totally redesigned track
featuring several new jumps.
Robert Laughlin had the hot clutch hand
at the start of the first malO, and led
Waddington and Dave Biesiada. Waddington
put the pressure on, but Laughlin held his
own. On the third lap, Waddington stuffed
Laughlin going into a tight turn and took
over the lead. On the move from a last-place
start was Mike Hooker. Hooker was blazing
fast as he zipped around Mike Dunlap f<;>r
fourth place.
Biesiada was running third and began to
pressure the fading Laughlin until he lost the
frdnt end in the sandwash and went down,
retiring from the moto. Hooker was the next
rider to challenge Laughlin, as he closed fast
and put the move on Laughlin for second
place.
Waddington had a huge advantage when
the checkered £lag £lew, finishing the mota
with a lead of over half a lap on Hooker, who
led Laughlin and Dunlap across the line.
Hooker grabbed the holeshot for mota two,
but Waddington stepped up the pace and blew
by him and ran away. Hooker held on to a
distant second, with Laughlin again a lonely
third.
Milano Atanasovski showed a return to the
style that won him the junior title in 1991,
as he raced through the first turn with a sevenbike length lead on the 125cc Junior class.
Pierre Oxelmark was in second, with Jeff
Skeen and Steve Wamboldt in tow. Atanasovski looked strong in front for several laps
until Oxelmark stormed by on the downhill.
Shortly after that, Wamboldt shot past
Atanasovski in a tight turn for second place.
Atanasovski's day tame to an abrupt halt
. as he did a face plant and retired for the day.
This moved Skeen into a distant third. All
eyes were on the now-raging battle for the
lead between. Oxelmark and Wamboldt.
Wamboldt waited patiently to make his move
and shot by for the win on the last lap.
Oxelmark was a close second, with 'Skeen 10
the third position.
.
Oxelmark put his Suzuki out in front early
in moto two but Wamboldt would not be
denied as he £lew past for the win and the
