Well, the finish was indeed "impressive," but it was second overall rather than fourth, and the (GTU) team would very likely have finished on the same lap as the winner had they not had to make a last-minute pit stop to tighten up a. loose handlebar. 14 OFF·~OAD SUIJ1!Ilers finishes with a bang at West Virginia GNCC 23 If you're keeping score, give an "E" to the editor. I have been riding motorcycles for 20 years and racing and actively promoting off-road racing for over 17 years. I have never been to a National event where the promoter' offered as much and as many types of racing. And to make it even better, one gate fee covered everything! . On Friday night there was a super·cross.' Practice for the amateurs on the National MX track started early Saturday morning and racing lasted until late in the afternoon. While the MX was in progress, a hare scrambles rate and a flat track race were being held at adjacent facilities. When the day racing ended, we had just enough time to eat before the Saturday evening supercross started. At 9 a.m. Sunday, the pros were practicing and by 1 p.m. the qualifiers were over and the National began. This promoter really knows how to keep the spectators and racers jnterested. It was by far the best racing weekend I've ever had. and both of my sons and the two families that went with me· also felt the same. Amateur and National MX, two supercross events, flat tracking and a hare scrambles - what more could an avid race fan ever dream of having in one weekend. I'm looking forward 'to the U.S. 250cc MX Grand Prix at this track next summer. This facility deserVes the GP. George Greer President Va. Championship HS Series Smithfield, VA Impressive indeed Mickey Hunt Racing Information Services Plano, TX A great ambassador I was very sorry to read of the death of Lee Moselle. It was always a tremendous pleasure to talk with him over many aspects of running a race circuit and the Grand Prix. . He gave his very best for Laguna Seca. He fought many difficulties in being able to take the motorcycle Grand Prix. to Laguna Seca and he did his utmost in trying to keep the race going in i 992. I very much enjoyed talking to Lee at the FIM meetings, at Donington, or when he telephoned to discuss common problems. He was a great personality and a great ambassador with a marvelous sense of humor. He will be very much missed. IN THE WIND By PaE_a_eal--,,--ey W _ Continued from page 3 CORRECTION: In an item that ran in this section last week, we erroneously credited Mike Smith with the 1992 AMA 600 Supersport Championship. That honor belongs to Tom Kipp. Smith missed several series races due to a broken leg. Kipp clinched the title at the Mid-Ohio round in August aboard a Camel-backed Honda. CORRECTION: In our coverage of the October II Buckhorn National Enduro in Redding, California, we incorrectly reported that Kevin Hines finished fifth overall, when in fact the Husqvarna rider tied for fourth place with Suzuki's Steve Hatch, and came out ahead on the tie-breakers for fourth overall. Hatch finished fifth. BORN: Dallas Lee Fleck, son of Dunlop market analyst and Pro-Am class dirt track racer Brian Fleck and his wife Robin in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 13. [N
