~ M ass GFI Fall Series South: Round 2 oroeR ~ ~--. Gabe Bolivar (248) and Kenny Maddux (88) banged bars at the start of the first 250cc Intermediate class moto. Eric Wood (20) grabbed the holeshot in the second 80cc Beginner division two moto. A large turnout of mini riders filled two full starting grids. Kehoe rocks Perris By Tony Alessi PERRIS, CA, ocr. 19 rik Kehoe used sound judgement and years of experience to score the 125cc Pro class victory and a strong runner-up finish in the 250cc Pro class during the second round of .the GFI Fall Series at Perris Raceway. Dana Wiggins, Anthony Amaradio and Joel Albrecht set the early pace at the start of the first 125cc Pro moto. Kehoe got off to a slow start and finished the first lap almost dead-last. Emerging from a midpack start was a hard-charging Erik Hilton, who was passing riders at will and quickly charged up into second place. Wiggins continued to ride unchallenged in the lead while Kehoe worked his way up to the front-runners, turning the race into a three-man battle for the lead. As the race wound down, Kehoe picked off Hilton and began to close the gap on Wiggins. Kehoe pushed the leader hard, on two occasions jumping alongside of Wiggins, but was unable E 2 to make the pass stick. Wiggins was able to hang on for the moto win, and was followed across the line by Kehoe. Hilton put in' an impressive ride to make it a Honda sweep of the first three positions. In moto two, Wiggins and Kehoe picked up where they had left off, mounting an intense battle for the lead. Joel Albrecht tagged along in third aboard a new Yamaha YZ125. The three riders put time on the rest of the field and began what would evolve into a separate race at the front of the pack. While Kehoe's pass attempts were persistent, he also appeared to be biding his time, waiting for the perfect opportunity to make a pass. That time came three laps from the finish, when Wiggins left a small opening and Kehoe was there to shoot into the lead. Kehoe went on to the moto and overall wins, with Wiggins' second-place finish earning him second overall. Kehoe had a bit more to contend with in the 250cc class, namely Shaun Kalos and first-round winner Steve Lamson. Moto one saw Kalos and his Noleen Yamaha simply stomp the competition with his error-free style. Kehoe and Lamson battled their way through the pack to second and third places, respectively, but Kalos was untouchable and handily won the moto. Mike Chamberlain controlled, the early laps of the second moto until Kehoe took the lead and stole the show. Kehoe quickly left the competition behind and set a pace that was unmatched by any other rider. At the halfway point, Kehoe enjoyed almost an eight-second lead over Kalos, who spent much of the moto battling his way past a determined Chamberlain. Just when it seemed that Kehoe was assured of a win, he crashed. Kalos quickly snatched up the lead and ran with it for the moto and overall victories. Kehoe regrouped in time to salvage second place, and was followed across the line by Albrecht. Jon Miller and Alan Olson exchanged. moto wins in the +40 Expert class. Olson dogged Miller for the entire first moto and was rewarded with a last-lap pass when Miller tangled with lapped riders. Olson led for most of the second moto, but this time it was Miller who made a late pass and sprinted across the line for the win. Miller's 2-1 score earned him the overall win. Miller was back later in the program to race against the younger and more aggressive Plus 35 Intermediate class. Miller rode his heart out, but could only muster a second-place finish behind double-moto winner Fritz Schlegal. Greg Years.ley was the king of the Novice division, posting a total of four moto wins in the 125cc Novice and division one of the 250cc Novice class. In both 250cc Novice motos, Yearsley rode just out of reach of Jason Matthews. Pat· Foster continued his consistent string of rides for third overall ahead of Scott McKey and Geno Priva. Yearsley smoked the 125cc class with Sal Ugarte riding hard in both motos for second. Brian Curtis topped both the 250cc and Plus 25 Intermediate classes. He won the '250cc class without scoring a moto victory, finishing third in the. first moto behind Larry Linkogle and winner Dennis Dahlin. Cunis finished second behind Kevin Geyer in the second moto, but his consistency paid off with an overall win. (;N Results 50 FIRST TtMER 0-1: I. Kyle Vicioso (Yam); 2. Derreck Clowers (Yam); 3.
