"' 00 CN .[j o ,.D o u Big-bore off-road thumpers highlight /93 Kawasakis or years Honda has had the big-bore, four-stroke on- / off-road market pretty much to themselves. Not any more. For 1993, Kawasaki plans to turn Big Red green with envy as they introduce their first entries in the category not one, but two versions ·of the KLX650. And that's not all. Joining the KLX650s as an all-new model recently introduced to dealers in San Diego, California, is the ZRllOO street bike, while the sport bike lineup of Ninjas the ZX-6, ZX-7 and ZX-7R, and ZX-ll all feature updates for the new year. Let's begin with the KLX650s. Available in two models, the KLX650R, for off-road use only, and the dual sport KLX650, for both on and off-road application, are aimed directly at Honda's XR600 and XRL650. The new Kawasakis feature all-new 651cc, liquid-cooled, four-stroke singles with both powerplants featuring four valves per cylinder, a dual-stage cam chain and KACR Kawasaki Automatic Compression Release. In addition, both models are fed via 40mm semi-flat slide CVK carburetors. One difference between the two engines is the use of an electrofusion cylinder on the KLX650R.
