CONGRATULATIONS TO TSUBAKI CHAIN WIN ERS Team Muzzy Kawasaki # 1 AMA Superbike Champi()n #1 AMA 750cc Supersport Cliampion Fredette wins Red Brush Enduro Fast By Ferracci Ducati USA # 1 AMA Supertwins Champion By Sharon Bean PLYMOUTH, IN, SEPT. 27 Jeff Fredette scored the overall win at Plymouth Blackhawks Red Brush Enduro, narrowly edging out Bob Bean. The two riders tied on minutes, but Kawasaki KDX-mounted Fredette came out on top after the tie-breaker points were tallied. Heavy rains the week prior to the enduro had flooded many of the river bottoms and bayous, and the river itself had risen to dangerous heights. Some last-minute rearrowing was done and several sections of trail had to be cut out. Riders had just one mile of road before heading into a nice three-mile section of woods with a check at the end of it. Many of the faster riders zeroed the check, with most riders dropping oneor two points. High-point B rider Chad Thornburg was two minutes late. The second check was an emergency check, and saw most of the faster riders drop at least one point. Don MelZ was the only rider to score a zero. Bean and Fredette each dropped one point, with Bean edging Fredette by 13 seconds. _. Leaving check number two, the riders had half a mile of road before they went back into the woods. The trail featured a mixture of tight single-track, fields, open woods and a milelong section of railroad tracks. Bean pulled ahead of Fredette by a minute, and Metz dropped one point to put him and Bean in a tie for the lead. The fourth check was at the end of the Plymouth Blackhawks' clubgrounds, where Fredette pulled back up even with Bean. It was an emergency check, which proved to be the deciding factor for Fredette. MelZ was still leading by one point, however. Alan Randt saw his day come to an end in the last section before the gas stop when he put his KTM in a deep mudhole and took almost an hour to get out. "When 1 hit the mudhole I went over the bars and when I landed I felt my shoulder pop," said Randt. Bean almost saw his day come to an end when he got hit in the mouth by a tree limb. "I don't know what it was; I never even saw it," said Bean. "It knocked my bridgework loose in my mouth and 1 started choking on it. My helmet was turned sideways· and I couldn't see, and ran off the traiL" All of the top riders zeroed the fifth check, and the sixth check saw Fredette, Bean and Lohman drop two points, while Metz and Floyd each dropped three. This put Metz, Bean and Fredette in a three-way lie for the lead. The seventh and eighth checks were zeroed by Bean, Fredette and Lohman. Metz dropped two points a.t check eight. This left Bean and Fredette tied with five points each, with Fredette edging out Bean by 12 seconds for the day. scon RUSSELL· Team Muzzy Kawasaki SUPERBIKE CHAMPION U.S. TSUBAKI,'NC # 1 AMA GTU Endurance Champion Ask your dealer for Tsubaki ••• the chain more racers use and win on by choice!
