Carr won and Fay finished second. Fortune had crashed together and Fortune's foot was caught in Engstrom's rear wheel. "We had to be extra-carefUl removing Jerrod's foot from my bike," explained Engstrom. "It was stuck between my tire and swingarm." Engstrom remounted, but was a lap down. On lap two, Pospisil moved by Winecke and set his sights on Colbert, while Kemple was forced to pull off with brake problems. Pospisil reeled in Colbert and on the last lap was able to slip by to steal the victory. Pty McHilien (Hon); 2. Noel Kohanski (Vam); 3. Kelly Nylund (Hon); 4. Carr nabs Castle Rock TT win By Derryl Anderson Photo by Flat Trilk Fotos CASTLE ROCK, WA, SEPT. IS Chris Carr piloted his Harley-Davidson Inc.! Arai/Hap Jones/Sunoco/Alpinestars-backed, Kenny Tolbert-tuned, Harley-David on XR600 to the win at the Darrell Davis AMA Western Regional "IT, held at the Castle Rock "IT. 50 Hockings' lines and wait for the main event. Hocking and Carr transfered to the main with the remainder going to one of two semis. In heat two, Aaron Hill got the scratch and the initial lead followed by Rick Henson, Joe Kopp, Fay, Springsteen and Tresser. Fay got by Kopp and Henson with three-time Grand National Champion Springsteen in tow. With two laps to go, Fay slid past Hill for the lead. Meanwhile, Tresser moved up to third as Springsteen also got by Hill. At the checkered flag it was Fay and Springsteen going to the main with Tresser, Hill, Henson, Ron Waters, Kit Farley and the others going to a semi. Jeff Annen got the holeshot in the third and final heat race and went wire-to-wire without looking back. Behind him were Randy Roose, Yamamoto, Don Wilson and Rex Fisher. Fisher passed Wilson and the final. order was set. Going to the main event were Annen and Roose. Two rows of anxious riders lined up for the first of two semis which would send the top three finishers in each to the main. Stanley took control of the first semi followed by Hill and Speedy Kell. Transferring out of the second semi were Fisher, Ron Yamamoto and Strong. In the main event, the crowd came alive when Springsteen got the holeshot ahead of Annen, Fay, Carr and Roose. On lap two, Annen passed Springsteen and led for several laps before he' slid out and dropped to the rear. By lap three, Carr came from fourth to take the lead. Lap five saw Fay go by Springsteen, but Carr had a 30-yard advantage that he never gave up. Towards the end, Carr still had a sizeable lead on Fay, who in turn had 30-yards on Springsteen. "I'd like to thank Kenny Tolbert for tuning my factory Harley and the Mt. t. Helens M.C. Club for doin~ uch an ex ellent job and especially to Jim Davis for all of his work and dedication at Castle Rock," said Carr, as he presented Mr. Davis with his Darell Davis Western Regional trophy. Carr posted the fastest qualifying time of the night by rounding the track in 21.81 seconds and eclipsing the track record of 22.27 that he set last year. Second fastest was Andy Tresser, while Ron Yamamoto, Rex Fisher and Mickey Fay rounded out the five fastest. In heat one, Rick Hocking got an excellent scratch and reached turn one well ahead of Carr, Fay, Kirk Strong and Dan Stanley. Within two laps, Carr was all over Hocking but could nOI find an opening. Hocking was running unusually fast and as the laps ran out, Carr seemed content to just study Rand right-on at Haspin Acres MX By Jim Fliehman LAUREL, IN, ocr. 3·4 Greg Rand rode flawlessly to convincing wins in both Saturday night's and Sunday's motocross races at Haspin Acres Motorsports Park. Saturday night'S Dash For Cash program saw Kurt Hough and Rick Denny try to hold back the Suzuki of Greg Rand. Hough had • the early lead in moto one, but on lap two Rand wicked it up, clearing the triple and moving up next to Hough, as Denny watched from third. Rand then launched off a tabletop to take over the lead and controlled the moto from that point on. Moto two saw Mike Faulk holeshot the pack of cash-hungry riders, only to have Rand outbrake him and accelerate by in the next comer. Rand again led the remainder of the moto for the win. KING PORT, TN, SEPT. 27 Kevin Walker took advantage of some bad luck on Mike Brown's part to grab the l25cc A class win on a muddy day at Hidden Acres MX Park. Conditions were so bad that lap times were more than twice as long as normal, . and officials decided to count the first-moto results as final. Brown was one racer who seemed to handle· the sloppy conditions with ease. Grabbing the holeshot, Brown turned his first lap in two minutes and 15 seconds, only slightly off the usual pace at Hidden Acres. Brown appeared to have the race in the bag, until a cloud of steam appeared from underneath his Honda. The machine began to gradually lose power, allowing second-place Walker to edge closer as the laps wound down. Two laps later the frustrated Brown rolled to a stop in a cloud of vapor. Walker carefully edged past the obstacle, through the mist, and went on to take the win. Suzuki pilot Chad Lough maintained a solid second place. Results 50 STK: J. jeffrey Fields (Yam); 2. V,erdeen Langland pulled the holeshot at the start of the Open Pro heat race, but Billy Hoffmiester reeled in Langland by the end of lap two. Hoffmeister stretched his lead over the four-rider battle for second place between Langland, Dan Zitur, Randy Triplett and Hook. With three laps remaining, Triplett slid by Zitur and Langland, then focused on HoHmiester. On the next-to-Iast lap, Hook snuck around Zitur and Langland and moved in on Triplett. Hoffmiester greeted the checkers in first, while Hook pulled alongside of Triplett exiting turn four, nipping his teammate by a wheel for second. Zitur boasted the quickest reactions at the start of the main and led for one lap before crashing hard on the front straight. Amazingly, the entire field avoided Zitur and the race was stopped. Zitur was fine, but a badly bend handlebar forced him to spectate. . On the restart, Hoffmiester grabbed the lead ahead of Triplett, Hook, Langland and Eric Brouhard. On lap four, Hook worked his way around Triplett and set his sights on the leading Hoffmiester. . Triplett and Langland fought for third while Brouhard and Norb Gregory argued over fifth. Gregory finally gained the upper hand and slipped by Brouhard at the halfway point. Hook and Hoffmiester were inseparable until. the penultimate lap, when Hook pushed his Yamaha around Hoffmiester for
