number-two spot to the finish for second overall, and was cheered throughout the final laps by the hundreds of spectators on hand. Ward's main competition in the 125cc class were his young teammates Ferry, Ryan Hughes and Reynard. At the beginning of moto one it looked like Ward had a chance at the win, though he was unaccustomed to the small bike. Ward led the pack through turn one, but Ferry wasn't far behind. Back in third and fourth were Hughes and Reynard, and Ferry overtook Ward for the lead. Hughes went down while battling with Reynard, and lost several positions as a result. Reynard passed Ward for second, and quickly set out after the leading Ferry. At the finish, Reynard pulled up alongside Ferry, and the two crossed the line side by side, with Ferry just eking out the moto win. Hughes recovered to finish third, while Ward had his hands full with local rider Bairy Carsten. Carsten ~ventually made the pass to finish fourth in the moto. Ward chose not to ride in moto two, leaving Hughes, Ferry and Reynard to struggle amongst themselves. Within the first lap, Hughes emerged as the dominant rider in the moto, as Ferry and Reynard had to work their way up after poor starts. Carsten was once again in the top five, and was giving Reynard a tough time in his bid to move to the front of the pack. Ferry had less trouble with Carsten, passing him by the fourth lap and setting out to catch Hughes. Reynard finally slid by Carsten with three laps remaining, and the freight train of Hughes, Ferry and Reynard plowed ahead. Hughes maintained control and continued a furious pace to stay ahead until the checkered flag, but it was Ferry who earned the overall victory. Hughes nabbed second overall, and Reynard finished in third. Reynard took to the track with a vengeance in moto one of the 250cc Pro class. Just one year ago, Reynard was competing aboard a minicycle, but he looked more than comfortable on the big bike, grabbing the early' lead and staying in front for the remainder of the moto. Hughes worked up from a midpack start, and he, Ray Sommo and Carsten battled for position behind Reynard for most of the moto. Hughes passed Sommo and Carsten to take over second place, and started to chase after Reynard. Hughes ran out of time, though, and Reynard scored the moto win. SommO held off Carsten to finish third.. Jim Neese grabbed the spotlight for the first two laps of the second moto. Reynard took over on lap three, as Hughes again began a march to the top after a mediocre start. Local favorite Joel Dengler settled into the third spot and stayed there for much of the race. After working his way up near the front, Hughes went down on the straight just before the white flag, recovering in fifth place. Hughes knew that time was running out, and he quickly mounted yet another charge. Soon, he jumped past Dengler to take over third place. KTM-mounted'Keith Johnson had illso picked up some speed, and dropped Dengler back one more position in his pursuit of Hughes. The leading Reynard lapped all the way up to 14th place, and eased in for the moto win. Neese maintained his second-place spot, and Johnson and Hughes rode to the finish with less than a bike length separating them.. Reynard scored the overall win ahead of Hughes and Sommo.
