~ NEW BIKES 1993 Yamaha street bikes ~ The GTSlOOO is powered by a lOOOcc five-valve-per-cylinder motor that is based' on the same engine that powers the FZRlOOO sportbike. I f Buck Rogers rode a motorcycle, the 1993 Yamaha GTSIOOOA would most likely be his machine of choice. After five years on the drawing boards, the revolutionary motorcycle has arrived in production form and will find its way into Yamaha dealerships by late March of '93 with a suggested retail price of $12~999. Designated as a sport-touring machine, the radical GTSIOOO is centered around the all-new "Omega" chassis design and single-sided front swingarm suspension. Though 'singlesided front swingarm suspension systems have been seen on various prototype machines, the GTSIOOO is the first mass-production motorcycle to feature the new concept. Other features like a 20-valve (five valves per cylinder) engine with electronic fuel injection, a catalytic converter and anti-lock braking help take the sting out of the somewhat hefty price tag. The Omega chassis is constructed of aluminum alloy and mimics the shape of the Greek letter of the same name, with the front and rear suspension I 20 The GTSlOOO looks futuristic with its front suspension system, new Omega . chassis and three-spoke wheels.
