Craig Decker (75) chased Damon Huffman (30) in 125cc Pro action. Nick Norton (315) grabbed the holeshot and went on to win the 80cc Beginner class. Lewis, Huffman shine at Sunrise By Terry Judd ADELANTO, CA, SEPT. 14 yle Lewis and Damon Huffman put on a great show at Sunrise Cycle Park, as each of them traded DNFs, and class wins. Their head-tohead battles saw Lewis match the win in the 250cc Pro class, while Huffman scored in the l25cc Pro class. In the first l25cc Pro moto, Shane Tittler grabbed the holeshot, went into the fast sweeper way too hot and flew straight off the track. Lewis took over the lead, followed closely by Ryan Carlisle, Huffman, Ty Davis and Sean Pagel. On lap two, Huffman pulled ahead of Carlisle and the three front-runners started to pull away from the rest of the pack. Maintaining fourth was Davis with fifth' place belonging to Pagel. On lap four, Huffman was able to nip Lewis at the finish line turn, but Lewis squirted by over the short tabletop. Lewis and Huffman began to leave the rest ,of the pack behind. Huffman continually pulled even with Lewis, but Lewis would not let him get by. Suddenly, on lap seven, K 6 Lewis pulled off the track, the victim of a broken spark plug. This catapulted Huffman into the lead and handed him a huge win. Holding down second was Carlisle, ahead of Davis, and Craig Canoy. Lewis jumped to the lead of the second moto a'nd pulled away so quickly that it looked as though no one would have a prayer of catching him. Huffman got a poor start and had his work cut out for him. In second on lap two was Canoy, followed by Decker, Kalos and Carlisle. Kalos rode like a man possessed on the second lap, and moved all the -way up to second, Meanwhile, Decker bobbled and dropped to fourth behind Canoy. By lap three Huffman had moved up two places. It only took him one more lap to get by Decker, but now Kalos stood between he and Lewis. Two laps later, on lap six, Huffman got by Kalos. The dual between those two brought Huffman into striking distance of Lewis, and given one more lap, Huffman may have gotten around him. Their last lap battle was one, of the best of the day, and Lewis had to dig deep to find what it took to hold off a determined charge by Huffman. In 250cc Pro action, the first moto saw Anthony Amaradio grab the lead and hold it for two laps before Huffman got by. After that, Amaradio had nothing but problems while trying to stay with the leaders, finally dropping out on the fifth lap, after taking a hard spill. Huffman looked to be unstoppable out in the lead until the fifth lap, when his rear shock became a pogo stick after blowing the valving. Meanwhile, Lewis had started off with a sixth-place start and just kept working his way though the pack. Lewis passed two riders at once in the hairpin turn after the big tabletop on the third lap, and inherited the lead when Huffman blew his rear shock. Good starts and persistent riding by Decker and Terry Parsons netted them second and third, respectfully. Carlisle put ,on a great show, coming all the way from 13th at the sum to get by Davis on the last lap to finish fourth. In between motos, Huffman's mechanic ripped the shock off his 125, traded springs and changed the damping in time for Huffman to go out and win the race. Lewis worked hard to catch Huffman but couldn't reel him in and ended the moto in second place. The best racing in the second moto came between Decker and Kalos, the two riders went at each other all moto long. Decker was able to sail by Kalos on the fifth lap and hold him off to the end. The overall win went to Lewis. Second'overall was Decker, and the reward for consistent riding and staying out of harm's way was a third overall for Parsons. Rex Staten added to his impressive string of overall wins by taking the overall in the 500cc Pro class. Greg Zitterkopf and Tim Telford gave ,him a run for his money in the first moto, . though. The holeshot went to Telford with Staten in second and Zitterkopf third. On lap three, Zitterkopf was able to get by Staten on ~e sweeper before the big double, and then set his sights on Telford. Two laps later, Zitterkopf took the lead in the same place that he passed Staten. Last lap action was tight, but ended with no further changes. The second moto was all Staten, from holeshot to finish, with Telford holding down second. Zitterkopf got a poor start and could only work his way up to third at the finish. Zitterkopf's 1-3 tally was good for second overall, followed by Telford. The DePatto brothers dominated the 125cc Intermediate class, Jason taking
