• hor, Hatch, Ricketts, Blackwell and an obviously hurting Summers. By this time things were drying out on the big hill, and the race to the finish would be decided by speed rather than luck. Plessinger-stayed·out front through'the f~nal two laps to the finish, eventually opening up a lead of over a minute. Lap six did not go without incident for Plessinger, however, as he was stung by a bee and had to complete the race in pain. "I started to feel sick," said Plessinger. "This (win) wasn't easy." The real battle was for second place, between Hrehor and Connor. The duo swapped positions a number of times and were within a couple of bikelengths of each other with just one and a half. miles to go, but then Hrehor got out of shape on a slippery uphill and lost contact with Connor. Connoreventually crossed the finish line with the' runner-up spot secured, while Hrehor recovered to finish third. "The course was very hard and very slippery," said the Czechoslovakian ~rehor! whose English' is rapidly Improvmg. Hatch rode the last couple of laps alone in fourth, maintaining that position to the finish. Ricketts and Blackwell followed in fifth and sixth, respectively, with Ricketts' commendable ride from the second row also earning him the win in the 250cc A class. Summers struggled to the finish in ninth overall, earning enough points to maintain first place in the point standings. "I don't think I did any damage to it (the wrist), but it sure was hurting," said Summers. "We've got another National' next weekend and a cross country the week after that, so there's a lot of pressure for my wrist to perform." . In other action, Rick Kresic came out on top of a race-long battle with Tommy Harris to win the Vet A class, and Jared Green scored the FourStroke A class win over Dwight Rudder and Don Bohn. Jeff Lauth topped the very competitive 200cc A class. One particularly heroic ride was turned in by Wes Ault, who was competing despite a freshly broken right wrist, plaster cast and all. Unable to operate his Yamaha's throttle, Ault mounted an ATV-type thumb throttle and survived three hours on the brutal course to finish in third place in the Vet B class. £N Results 01A: I.
