INSIDE v ICES 0 FEATURES Thanks from #21 William and I would like to thank all of our friends and family for their support after Will's accident at the Indy Mile. We really appreciate all of the cards, flowers, gifts and calls that we received during his hospitalization and at home. It means a lot to William to know that he has friends and family that care so much for him. After being discharged from Methodist Hospital in Indy on Tuesday, August 25, William went to an orthopedic hand specialist at Duke University here in North Carolina and received a very encouraging report that his fractured wrist would heat and possibly regain 75% of the function back. Although he will be out for the rest of the season, he wanted to express his thanks to everyone who has supported his team this season and let everyone know that he plans to come back full force at Daytona next March. W/BOI\ V rl"\ Letters to the editor Rhonda is the wife of Camel Pro Series competitor Will Davis, who was enjoying his best-ever year. Sixth in the point standings' following the Indy Mile, Davis scored two Camel Pro wins this season (at the Parkersburg and Oklahoma City Half Mile rounds). His only previous Grand National victory came in the 1989 Lima Half Mile . .. Editor. It's easy to point fingers I am writing in response to the letter from ~athy Soule regarding the Chris Carr and Scotty Parker accident. I was at the Oklahoma City Half Mile. Soule says in her letter that Chris should learn how to pay more attention to what is going on around him, like any rookie would know how to do. The same could be said for Scotty. The yellow flag was being clearly displayed when Scotty went into turn one. What the flag means is one of the first things you learn, not as a rookie but as an amateur. When a rider is down you don't (whenever possible) go flying by only inches away from him. The more room possible, the less chance of adding to the accident. I think Chris made a poor judgement call while seeing his title chance going up in smoke with his fall. I believe that Scotty saw his chance to gain several points with Chris down, and in the heat of battle he also made a poor judgement call. After reading Kathy's letter and Scotty's response, I don't believe either Scotty or Chris were thinking safety first. It's awful easy to point fingers. Keith Williams Baytown, TX Brain fade No National road race in southern California the last two seasons? Your September 2 issue with a report on a possible 1993 road race in the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds parking lot notes a lack of a National road race in southern California since 1990. WERA Pro Series has held National Championship road races in southern California in 1990, 1991 and 1992 at Willow Springs. The 1992 WERA Pro Series event paid a larger purse to the top finishers than the defunct AMA race and drew more spectators. That's the reason there is no longer an AMA race at Willow Springs. Cycle News reported on all three WERA Pro Series Nationals in southern California. Your report reflects either a total memory failure, or you are blatantly slighting a series that has grown year by year to the benefit of all involved in the sport of motorcycle road racing, including riders, sponsors and even Cycle News. Douglas M. Gonda Co-Owner, WERA Pro Series Truckee, CA We stand corrected. Chalk it up to brain fade ... Editor. . Bravo, Prime Network It has been a treat to have quality TV coverage of road racing in the U.S. and across the' pond this season. Prime Network's coverage of the Grand Prix season has been top notch. I especially' enjoyed the three same day tape-delayed races, even though the B~C boys are somewhat antiAmerican. Anytime you can get two and a half hours of GP racing in one sitting is a treat. I'd like to see all the GP races televised this way. The AMA National coverage covers all the bases and the Prime Network production staff does a great job of putting together a lot of tape into two programs per National and still make sense. The commentary by Chris Carter is great in the AMA coverage, he's so good and knowledgeable. I wait anxiously every Thursday for Prime Network's Motorcycle Madness to come on, so I can get my weekly dose of road racing. Could you please print the address of Prime Network so people can write them and encourage them to continue their excellent coverage of road racing. The only way road racing is going to continue to grow is through TV exposure to allow more people to see how much fun road racing is to watch and get involved in. Burt Jones St. Cloud, MN Prime Network's headquarter is located at 600 E. Las Colinas Blvd., Suite 2200, Irving, TX 75039. Prime Network provides its affiliated regional sports networks a national feed of sports programming to supplement their local lineups. So you should also drop a line to your area's affiliate, Prime Sports Network, at 2675 U,,!iversity Ave. West, Sui"te 100, St. Paul, MN 551I4 ... Editor.
