After a poor start, Burt Lavens fought hard to work his way up to an eventual third-place finish. . Brein Fell gated first in the 250cc B main. Lewis topped the 125, 250 and 500cc Pro classes on his Donald Pluffe-tuned Yamahas. Lewis earned over $11 00 for the night in an event that drew over 5000 spectators and nearly 300 professional and amateur riders. The track featured double and triple jumps at the entrances of most every turn. N 38 Lewis rode without equal, topping six of the six motos he entered with wire-to-wire sprints. Arguably the best battIe of the night came during the second I25cc Pro moto, which featured a standoff between Mike Young, Bubba Erickson and Terry Parsons. The first mistake caJIle when Young over-jumped the triple and overshot the following sweeper. Erickson was quick to respond, as was Parsons with both riders diving under Young, who was now flat' tracking around the sweeper. The next move came some time later in the race when after nearly five laps of constant pressure, Parsons moved his Honda into the runner-up spot for good, dropping Erickson to third. McDonald brothers hammer Hallett Road Race By Lawrence Patrick HALLETT, OK, AUG. 15-16 Sam McDonald won the Pro class and set a new track record in the process at the Hallett Motor Circuit. Beautiful weather greeted the large turnout of riders, who ran the track in the opposite direction than they normally do. In the first of tWO legs, Chet Meyer led the pack into turn.one ahead of Danny Dominues, hil McDonald and Charles Inman. Sam McDonald had suffered a poor start and had to work his way up through the field. By lap three, Phil McDonald had moved past Meyer for the lead, while Sam McDonald had carved his way up to third place. Sam McDonald displaced Meyer for second, then slipped past his brother Phil for the lead on lap six. Phil McDonald drafted back into the LOp spot at the white flag, but Sam made a move for the lead in turn three. The bauling brothers continued to swap first place throughout ·the final lap, and they brought the crowd to its feet as they exited turn nine side by side. Phil McDonald edged in front for the win. The start of the second leg was virtually a repeat of the first, as Meyer jumped ou't to the lead with Phil McDonald on his tail. Before the end of the first lap, McDonald had taken over the lead, while Sam McDonald was again mired in midpack. By lap four, Sam had moved into second place and was charging hard to catch his leading brother, who had a five-second advantage. Sam .McDonald picked up his pace and on the sixth lap set a new lap record of one minute, 23.09 seconds. He soon passed Phil McDonald for the lead and held it to the finish. The McDonald brothers also met with success in Saturday's Endurance race, where their K&N Racing team extended its winning streak to 28. Sam McDonald flew off the line and into the lead, opening up an eight-second gap on second place on the first lap. As McDonald pulled away, the real battle was between Team Duet Tape's Loren Swor, Motorcycle Doc's Ali Allen and Yamaha of Oklahoma's Robert Blevins, for second place. Swor and Allen eventually pulled away from Blevins, while McDonald continued to extend his lead. Swor and Allen both ran off the track when they encountered trouble with a lapped rider, allowing Blevins to move Yamaha of Oklahoma back into second place. Yamaha of Olahoma's day ended early when their motor began to make noise. This allowed Double·D Express to take over the second-place position, which riders Darnell Dorsey and Mike Sullivan maintained to the finish. Things didn't change for Team K&N
