Pekka Vehkonen, the 1985 125cc MX World Champion from Fip.land, underwent back surgery in Syracuse, New York, as a result of a qualifying crash at the July 19 U.S. 250cc GP MX at Unadilla. Vehkonen is expected to remain in the hospital for at least another two weeks and a full recovery is expected. Collene Thompson Campbell, chairman of the board of Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group and a leading advocate of criminal justice reform, was among eight honorees who received special recognition from President George Bush in ceremonies at the White House recently. Nominated by California Attorney General Dan Lungren, Campbell was the only volunteer among this year's .recipients who were honored as part of National Crime Victims Rights Week for their fight against crime.
